Guido van Rossum 9604e66660 Oops. I copied a slightly older version of the email package from the sandbox.
This should restore the email package in the py3k branch to exactly what's in
the sandbox.

This wipes out 1-2 fixes made post-copy, which I'll re-apply shortly.

Barry Warsaw 8b3d659692 Fix a more bytes/str confusion.
Use str.encode('raw-unicode-escape') consistently instead of bytes(string).

Remove the convert_eols argument from base64mime.decode(). This matches
previous API changes done to the quoprimime module.

Guido van Rossum 991bf5d8c8 Patch # 1050 by Amaury Forgeot d'Arc.
On Windows, debug builds insert stack probes, and recursive functions
tend to exhaust the stack faster.
This patch reduces the marshal maximum depth from 2000 to 1500 for debug
builds only. Optimized builds are not affected.
This allows test_marshal to pass with debug builds.

Guido van Rossum fb67be2f6b Three patches from issue #1047, by Amaury Forgeot d'Arc:
1/ getargs.diff adds the 'Z' and 'Z#' format specifiers for
PyArg_ParseTuple. They mimic z and z# for unicode strings, by accepting
a Unicode or None (in which case the Py_UNICODE* pointer is set to
NULL). With doc and tests.

2/ subprocess.diff converts file PC/_subprocess.c to unicode. We use the
Unicode version of the win32 api (and Z conversion from previous patch)

3/ stdout.diff: sys.stdout must not convert the line endings, Windows
already does it.
Without this patch, when redirecting the output of python, the file
contains \r\r\n for each line. (test_subprocess did catch this)

However, I (GvR) removed the change to _fileio.c (included in the
patches) that prevents closing file descripors < 3 from being closed;
I think that needs to be solved in a different way.

Eric Smith 625cbf28ee Modified parsing of format strings, so that we always return
a tuple (literal, field_name, format_spec, conversion).

literal will always be a string, but might be of zero length.
field_name will be None if there is no markup text
format_spec will be a (possibly zero length) string if
  field_name is non-None
conversion will be a one character string, or None

This makes the Formatter class, and especially it's parse()
method, easier to understand.

Suggestion was by Jim Jewett, inspired by the "tail" of an
elementtree node.

Also, fixed a reference leak in fieldnameiter_next.

Here's a patch which addresses this. It also fixes the indentation in
PySSL_SetError, bringing it into line with PEP 7, fixes a compile warning
about one of the OpenSSL macros, and makes the namespace a bit more

Improve extended slicing support in builtin types and classes. Specifically:

   - Specialcase extended slices that amount to a shallow copy the same way as
is done for simple slices, in the tuple, string and unicode case.

   - Specialcase step-1 extended slices to optimize the common case for all
     involved types.

   - For lists, allow extended slice assignment of differing lengths as long
as the step is 1. (Previously, 'l[:2:1] = []' failed even though
     'l[:2] = []' and 'l[:2:None] = []' do not.)

   - Implement extended slicing for buffer, array, structseq, mmap and
     UserString.UserString.

   - Implement slice-object support (but not non-step-1 slice assignment) for
     UserString.MutableString.

   - Add tests for all new functionality.

Guido van Rossum 92bab812f7 My wish for TempFile is fulfilled. 2007-08-28 03:32:38 +00:00
Guido van Rossum f0c7416157 Patch # 1033 by Adam Hupp:
1) tempfile.TemporaryFile, NamedTemporaryFile, and SpooledTemporaryFile
now pass newline and encoding to the underlying io.open call.
 2) test_tempfile is updated
 3) test_csv is updated to use the new arguments.
2007-08-28 03:29:45 +00:00
Guido van Rossum a1a68521db Make test_cgi pass. I changed the internal file created by make_file()
to be a text file. (XXX It should use UTF-8 as the encoding.)
I also removed the unised 'binary' argument from the make_file() signature.

XXX I am under no illusion that this is now working; I're pretty sure
it would be more principled if it always read binary data. But that's
for someone who actually cares about this module.

- Replace all asserts by ValuleErrors or TypeErrors as appropriate.
- Add _checkReadable, _checkWritable methods; these check self.closed too.
- Add a test that everything exported by io.py exists, and is either
an exception or an IOBase instance (except for the open function).
- Default buffering to 1 if isatty() (I had to tweak this to enforce
  the *default* bit -- GvR).

Eric Smith 8c66326368 Implementation of PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting.
Known issues:

The string.Formatter class, as discussed in the PEP, is incomplete.

Error handling needs to conform to the PEP.

Need to fix this warning that I introduced in Python/formatter_unicode.c:
Objects/stringlib/unicodedefs.h:26: warning: `STRINGLIB_CMP' defined but not used

Need to make sure sign formatting is correct, more tests needed.

Need to remove '()' sign formatting, left over from an earlier version of the PEP.

Neal Norwitz faa54a3929 Code review of the new buffer protocol. Mostly add questions that should
be answered with the comments removed.

There are many places that require checks when doing arithmetic for memory
sizes when allocating memory. Otherwise, overflow is possible with
a subsequent crash.

properly. Had to update the test for exceptions for BufferError too.

Guido van Rossum af554a0e17 First merge from the trunk straight into the py3k branch. I'm not
using the message generated by svnmerge, because it contains a lot of
stuff about the Doc tree, which I'm not merging this time due to the
way the Doc tree was initially added. I am however adding roman.py

trees separately to see if there's stuff I missed.

Walter Dörwald 41980caf64 Apply SF patch #1775604: This adds three new codecs (utf-32, utf-32-le and
ut-32-be). On narrow builds the codecs combine surrogate pairs in the unicode
object into one codepoint on encoding and create surrogate pairs for
codepoints outside the BMP on decoding. Lone surrogates are passed through
unchanged in all cases.

Backport to the trunk will follow.

Jeremy Hylton 3a38c91342 Remove Python 1.5 compatibility layer from httplib.
The two clients in the std library have been updated to use the newer
interface. A couple of minor changes to the httplib tests were

Also, reformat some long lines in the httplib tests.
2007-08-14 17:08:07 +00:00
Jeremy Hylton 5d8a88a442 Change xmlrpclib to use the newer httplib interface.
Note that it's hard to test xmlrpclib, because the server it attempts
to connect to doesn't seem to support the expected interfaces. Many
of the links via xmlrpc.com are dead, so I couldn't find another
server to use for tests.

Barry Warsaw 72937f3216 Compare what's read from files against proper byte literals. Neither of these
modules have unittests AFAICT, and I'm not improving things here, but these
changes make a bunch of email package tests succeed, and command line testing
against real files seems to make things better.

Added an __main__ section to imghdr.py so that it can be run from the command
line similarly to sndhdr.py. Someone else can figure out a better -m way of
doing this.

In sndhdr.py do a couple of very minor cleanups, and use a with statement to
not wait for gc to close the file.
