When range checking was added to time.strftime() a check was placed on tm_isdst
...
to make sure it fell within [-1, 1] just in case someone implementing
strftime() in libc was stupid enough to assume this. Turns out, though, some
OSs (e.g. zOS) are stupid enough to use values outside of this range for time
structs created by the system itself. So instead of throwing a ValueError,
tm_isdst is now normalized before being passed to strftime().
Fixes issue #6823 . Thanks Robert Shapiro for diagnosing the problem and
contributing an initial patch.

object argument, changes it and returns it again. If the

from the archive.
The exclude argument is deprecated from now on, because it

test_platform fails on OS X Snow Leopard because the UNIX command to get the

Most uses of PyCode_Addr2Line
(http://www.google.com/codesearch?q=PyCode_Addr2Line ) are just trying to get
the line number of a specified frame, but there's no way to do that directly.
Forcing people to go through the code object makes them know more about the
guts of the interpreter than they should need.
The remaining uses of PyCode_Addr2Line seem to be getting the line from a
traceback (for example,
http://www.google.com/codesearch/p?hl=en#u_9_nDrchrw/pygame-1.7.1release/src/base.c&q=PyCode_Addr2Line ),
which is replaced by the tb_lineno field. So we may be able to deprecate
PyCode_Addr2Line entirely for external use.

Backport of some of the work in r71665 to trunk. This reworks much of

int, long, and float __format__(), and it keeps their implementation
in sync with py3k.
Also added PyOS_double_to_string. This is the "fallback" version
that's also available in trunk, and should be kept in sync with that
code. I'll add an issue to document PyOS_double_to_string in the C
API.
There are many internal cleanups. Externally visible changes include:
- Implement PEP 378, Format Specifier for Thousands Separator, for
floats, ints, and longs.
- Issue #5515 : 'n' formatting for ints, longs, and floats handles
leading zero formatting poorly.
- Issue #5772 : For float.__format__, don't add a trailing ".0" if
we're using no type code and we have an exponent.

The basic algorithm remains the same; the most significant speedups
come from the following three changes:
(1) normalize by shifting instead of multiplying and dividing
(2) the old algorithm usually did an unnecessary extra iteration of
the outer loop; remove this. As a special case, this means that
long divisions with a single-digit result run twice as fast as
before.
(3) make inner loop much tighter.
Various benchmarks show speedups of between 50% and 150% for long
integer divisions and modulo operations.

Took Nick Coghlan's advice about importing warnings globally in logging, to avoid the possibility of race conditions: "This could deadlock if a thread spawned as a side effect of importing a module happens to trigger a warning. warnings is pulled into sys.modules as part of the interpreter startup - having a global 'import warnings' shouldn't have any real effect on logging's import time."

Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 triggered by its importation in
...
mimetools.
This has an unfortunate side-effect of potentially not letting any warning
about rfc822's deprecation be seen by user-visible code if rfc822 is not
imported before mimetools. This is because modules are cached in sys.modules
and thus do not have their deprecation triggered more than once. But this
silencing would have happened by other code that silences the use of mimetools
or rfc822 anyway in the stdlib or user code, and thus seems justified to be
done here.

fix issue3120 - don't truncate handles on 64-bit Windows.

This is still messy, realistically PC/_subprocess.c should never cast pointers
to python numbers and back at all.
I don't have a 64-bit windows build environment because microsoft apparently
thinks that should cost money. Time to watch the buildbots. It builds and
passes tests on 32-bit windows.

and the __init__ method is run.
But a thread switch can occur here; if the other thread touches the same object, it installs another
__dict__; when the first thread resumes, it updates the dictionary of the second...
This is the deep cause of the failures in test_multiprocessing involving "managers" objects.
Also a 2.5 backport candidate.

warnings.warn_explicit() did not have the proper TypeErrors in place to prevent

bus errors or SystemError being raised. As a side effect of fixing this, a bad
DECREF that could be triggered when 'message' and 'category' were both None was
fixed.

An instance of a weakref subclass can have attributes.
If such a weakref holds the only strong reference to the object,
deleting the weakref will delete the object. In this case,
the callback must not be called, because the ref object is being deleted!
