Also, explicitly connect to the IPV4 address. On windows platforms supporting AF_INET6, the SocketProxy would connect using socket.create_connection('localhost', port) which would cycle through all address families and try to connect. It would try connecting using AF_INET6 first and this would cause a delay of up to a second.

PyNumber_Int/PyNumber_Long API function so that it no longer attempts
to call the __long__ method for conversion. Only the __int__ and __trunc__
methods are used. (This removes a major remaining use of the nb_long
slot from the Python 3.x core.)

Have SocketIO objects update their reference count in the underlying
socket object on close() so that the underlying socket object is
closed immediately when the last user is done rather than at an
unknown later time when garbage collection can do it.
- Issue #4861: ctypes.util.find_library(): Robustify. Fix library detection on
biarch systems. Try to rely on ldconfig only, without using objdump and gcc.

Fix for issue3559: No preferences menu in IDLE on OSX
1) Add a comment to the help file to that points to the
preferences menu.
2) An earlier checkin tried to detect Tk >= 8.10.14,
but did this in the wrong way. The end result of this
was that the IDLE->Preferences... menu got surpressed
when using the system version of Tcl/Tk

Send HTTP headers and message body in a single send() call.
This change addresses part of issue 4336.
Change endheaders() to take an optional message_body argument
that is sent along with the headers. Change xmlrpclib and
httplib's other methods to use this new interface.
It is more efficient to make a single send() call, which should
get the entire client request into one packet (assuming it is
smaller than the MTU) and will avoid the long pause for delayed
ack following timeout.
Also:
- Add a comment about the buffer size for makefile().
- Extract _set_content_length() method and fix whitespace issues there.

Windows objects cannot be compared, and it's better to have a consistent order;
so We add the window unique ID to the sort key.

The Python code is automatically translated using "2to3". Please, do not
update this code in Python 3.0 by hand. Update the 2.6 one and then do

Adds a sanity check to avoid a *very rare* infinite loop due to a corrupt tls
key list data structure in the thread startup path.
This change is a companion to r60148 which already successfully dealt with a
similar issue on thread shutdown.
In particular this loop has been observed happening from this call path:

#1 in PyThread_set_key_value ()
#2 in _PyGILState_NoteThreadState ()
#3 in PyThreadState_New ()
#4 in t_bootstrap ()
#5 in pthread_start_thread ()
I don't know how this happens but it does, *very* rarely. On more than
one hardware platform. I have not been able to reproduce it manually.
(A flaky mutex implementation on the system in question is one hypothesis).
As with r60148, the spinning we managed to observe in the wild was due to a
single list element pointing back upon itself.

Fix posix.fork1() / os.fork1() to only call PyOS_AfterFork() in the child
process rather than both parent and child.
Does anyone actually use fork1()? It appears to be a Solaris thing
but if Python is built with pthreads on Solaris, fork1() and fork()
should be the same.

MacOS X: Enable 4-way universal builds
This patch adds a new configure argument on OSX:
--with-universal-archs=[32-bit|64-bit|all]
When used with the --enable-universalsdk option this controls which
CPU architectures are includes in the framework. The default is 32-bit,
meaning i386 and ppc. The most useful alternative is 'all', which includes
all 4 CPU architectures supported by MacOS X (i386, ppc, x86_64 and ppc64).
This includes limited support for the Carbon bindings in 64-bit mode as well,
limited because (a) I haven't done extensive testing and (b) a large portion
of the Carbon API's aren't available in 64-bit mode anyway.
I've also duplicated a feature of Apple's build of python: setting the
environment variable 'ARCHFLAGS' controls the '-arch' flags used for building
extensions using distutils.

When a thread touches such an object for the first time, a new thread-local __dict__ is created,
and the __init__ method is run.
But a thread switch can occur here; if the other thread touches the same object, it installs another
__dict__; when the first thread resumes, it updates the dictionary of the second...
This is the deep cause of the failures in test_multiprocessing involving "managers" objects.

warnings.warn_explicit() did not have the proper TypeErrors in place to prevent
bus errors or SystemError being raised. As a side effect of fixing this, a bad
DECREF that could be triggered when 'message' and 'category' were both None was
fixed.

It consists of code from urllib, urllib2, urlparse, and robotparser.
The old modules have all been removed. The new package has five
submodules: urllib.parse, urllib.request, urllib.response,
urllib.error, and urllib.robotparser. The urllib.request.urlopen()
function uses the url opener from urllib2.
Note that the unittests have not been renamed for the
beta, but they will be renamed in the future.

Issue 3110: Crash with weakref subclass,
seen after a "import multiprocessing.reduction"
An instance of a weakref subclass can have attributes.
If such a weakref holds the only strong reference to the object,
deleting the weakref will delete the object. In this case,
the callback must not be called, because the ref object is being deleted!

the standard library. There are still a few cases of it in Demo and
Tools, but that's fine for now. These should eventually get cleaned
up. mimetools still has an import of rfc822, but mimetools itself
should go away.

The new ascii() builtin can be used to get a repr() with only ASCII characters in it.

Issue #1798: Add ctypes calling convention that allows safe access of errno.
ctypes maintains thread-local storage that has space for two error
numbers: private copies of the system 'errno' value and, on Windows,
the system error code accessed by the GetLastError() and
SetLastError() api functions.
Foreign functions created with CDLL(..., use_errno=True), when called,
swap the system 'errno' value with the private copy just before the
actual function call, and swapped again immediately afterwards. The
'use_errno' parameter defaults to False, in this case 'ctypes_errno'
is not touched.
On Windows, foreign functions created with CDLL(...,
use_last_error=True) or WinDLL(..., use_last_error=True) swap the
system LastError value with the ctypes private copy.
The values are also swapped immeditately before and after ctypes
callback functions are called, if the callbacks are constructed using
the new optional use_errno parameter set to True: CFUNCTYPE(...,
use_errno=TRUE) or WINFUNCTYPE(..., use_errno=True).
New ctypes functions are provided to access the ctypes private copies
from Python:
- ctypes.set_errno(value) and ctypes.set_last_error(value) store
'value' in the private copy and returns the previous value.
- ctypes.get_errno() and ctypes.get_last_error() returns the current
ctypes private copies value.

getproxies_macosx_sysconf uses ctypes to call SystemConfiguration APIs. This

This patch removes the dependency on the Carbon package from urllib.
The mac-specific code for getting proxy configuration is now writting in
Python using ctypes and uses the SystemConfiguration framework instead of

Addresses issue 2802: 'n' formatting for integers.
Adds 'n' as a format specifier for integers, to mirror the same
specifier which is already available for floats. 'n' is the same as
'd', but inserts the current locale-specific thousands grouping.
I added this as a stringlib function, but it's only used by str type,
not unicode. This is because of an implementation detail in
unicode.format(), which does its own str->unicode conversion. But the
unicode version will be needed in 3.0, and it may be needed by other
code eventually in 2.6 (maybe decimal?), so I left it as a stringlib
implementation. As long as the unicode version isn't instantiated,
there's no overhead for this.

Fix a bug introduced in r62627. see issue2760 and issue2632.
An assertion in readline() would fail as data was already in the
internal buffer even though the socket was in unbuffered read mode.
That case is now handled. More importantly, read() has been fixed to
not over-recv() and leave newly recv()d data in the _fileobject buffer.
The max() vs min() issue in read() is now gone. Neither was correct.
On bounded reads, always ask recv() for the exact amount of data we
still need.
Candidate for backporting to release25-maint along with r62627.

If true, this is a bug in FreeBSD.

This should fix issue2632. A long description of the two competing
problems is in the bug report (one old, one recently introduced trying
to fix the old one). In short:
buffer data during socket._fileobject.read() and readlines() within a
cStringIO object instead of a [] of str()s returned from the recv()
call.
This prevents excessive memory use due to the size parameter being
passed to recv() being grossly larger than the actual size of the data
returned *and* prevents excessive cpu usage due to looping in python
calling recv() with a very tiny size value if min() is used as the
previous memory-use bug "fix" did.
It also documents what the socket._fileobject._rbufsize member is
actually used for.
This is a candidate for back porting to 2.5.

This introduces a new configure option: --with-framework-name=NAME
(defaulting to 'Python'). This allows you to install several copies

In test_io, StatefulIncrementalDecoderTest was not part of the test suite.
And of course, the test failed:
a bytearray was used without reason in io.TextIOWrapper.tell().
The difference is that iterating over bytes (i.e. str in python2.6) returns 1-char bytes,
whereas bytearrays yield integers.
This code should still work with python3.0

bytes and bytesarray objects, so memoryview objects shouldn't be
treated blindly as "bytes" objects.
particular, the error message now allows one to distinguish between a
ValueError arising from a singularity (e.g. log(0.)), which would
usually produce +-infinity in non-stop mode, and a ValueError resulting
from an invalid input (e.g. sqrt(-1.)), which would normally produce a
NaN in non-stop mode.
