Antoine Pitrou 957a23b088 Issue #17408: Avoid using an obsolete instance of the copyreg module when the interpreter is shutdown and then started again. 2013-05-04 20:45:02 +02:00
Brett Cannon 4c14b5de1c #17115,17116: Have modules initialize the __package__ and __loader__
attributes to None.

The long-term goal is for people to be able to rely on these
attributes existing and checking for None to see if they have been
set. Since import itself sets these attributes when a loader does not
the only instances when the attributes are None are from someone
overloading __import__() and not using a loader or someone creating a
module from scratch.

This patch also unifies module initialization. Before you could have
different attributes with default values depending on how the module
object was created. Now the only way to not get the same default set
of attributes is to circumvent initialization by calling
ModuleType.__new__() directly.

Christian Heimes 04ac4c1cb8 Issue #15895: my analysis was slightly off. The FILE pointer is only leaked when set_main_loader() fails for a pyc file with closeit=0. In the success case run_pyc_file() does its own cleanup of the fp. I've changed the code to use another FILE ptr for pyc files and moved the fclose() to PyRun_SimpleFileExFlags() to make it more obvious what's happening. 2012-09-11 15:47:28 +02:00

Brett Cannon e0d88a173c Issue #14605: Make explicit the entries on sys.path_hooks that used to
be implicit.

Added a warning for when sys.path_hooks is found to be empty. Also
changed the meaning of None in sys.path_importer_cache to represent
trying sys.path_hooks again (an interpretation of previous semantics).
Also added a warning for when None was found.

The long-term goal is for None in sys.path_importer_cache to represent
the same as imp.NullImporter: no finder found for that sys.path entry.

Victor Stinner 7bba62fd68 faulthandler: dump all threads by default
* Set the default value of all_threads arguments to True
 * Py_FatalError() dumps all threads, instead of only the current thread

Dump only the current thread is not reliable. In some cases, Python is unable
to retrieve the state of the current thread and so is unable to dump the
traceback. faulthandler keeps a reference to the interpreter and so is always
able to dump the traceback of all threads.

Victor Stinner c39211f51e Issue #9630: Redecode filenames when setting the filesystem encoding
Redecode the filenames of:

 - all modules: __file__ and __path__ attributes
 - all code objects: co_filename attribute
 - sys.path
 - sys.meta_path
 - sys.executable
 - sys.path_importer_cache (keys)

Keep weak references to all code objects until initfsencoding() is called, to
be able to redecode co_filename attribute of all code objects.

Gregory P. Smith fb94c5f1e5 * Replaces the internals of the subprocess module from fork through exec on
POSIX systems with a C extension module. This is required in order for
  the subprocess module to be made thread safe.

  The pure python implementation is retained so that it can continue to be
  used if for some reason the _posixsubprocess extension module is not
  available.

  The unittest executes tests on both code paths to guarantee compatibility.

* Moves PyLong_FromPid and PyLong_AsPid from posixmodule.c into longobject.h.

Benjamin Peterson 4fa88fa0ba merge the io-c branch: C implementation of the io module
The main io module now uses the C implementation. The Python one still exists
in Lib/_pyio.py for ease of testing new features and usefulness to other
implementers.

The rewrite was done by Antoine Pitrou and Amaury Forgeot d'Arc. I was slightly
helpful at the end. :)

Antoine Pitrou 0560843b8f Issue #4705: Fix the -u ("unbuffered binary stdout and stderr") command-line
flag to work properly. Furthermore, when specifying -u, the text stdout

to buffer arbitrary chunks of data). Patch by Victor Stinner, test by me.

the flush_io() function must be exception-neutral: don't raise, and don't clear exceptions.

Next step: exec() is not supposed to flush sys.stdout...

Trent Nelson 39e307e224 Issue2297: Fix a stack overflow in Windows caused by -v and -vv. When python is invoked with -v or -vv under Windows, the process of importing the codec for sys.stderr causes a message to be written to stderr, which in turn causes the codec to be recursively imported. Sometimes the stack overflow exception is swallowed, other times it is not. The bug depends on the particular locale settings of the Windows machine.
Kudos to Douglas Greiman for reporting the issue and providing a patch and test case.

Christian Heimes c896700235 Partial fix for bug #1306
Multiple reinitializations of Python 3.0 failed on a system without a hardcoded default fs encoding. The patch makes sure that the default fs encoding is freed and reset to NULL on e.g. Linux.
I've also taken the liberty to increase the debugging in Objects/object.c:_Py_ForgetReference(). The method is used to validate the reference chain.
Reinitialization still fails in the 3rd round of my test suite:
* ob

Christian Heimes 58cb1b8b0e Fix for #1415 pythonw.exe fails because std streams a missing
After a long discussion about the problem with Windows GUI apps Guido decided that sys.stdin, stdout and stderr should be None when the C runtime library returns invalid file descriptors for the standard streams.

So far the only known cases are Windows GUI apps and scripts started with pythonw on Windows. The OS restrictions are tight enough to catch the problem on other OSes.

Guido van Rossum 98297ee781 Merging the py3k-pep3137 branch back into the py3k branch.
No detailed change log; just check out the change log for the py3k-pep3137
branch.  The most obvious changes:

  - str8 renamed to bytes (PyString at the C level);
  - bytes renamed to buffer (PyBytes at the C level);
  - PyString and PyUnicode are no longer compatible.

I.e. we now have an immutable bytes type and a mutable bytes type.

The behavior of PyString was modified quite a bit, to make it more
bytes-like. Some changes are still on the to-do list.

Guido van Rossum 826d8973ac Patch 1352 (continued in issue 1329) by Christian Heimes.
Before sys.stderr is set to the proper thing, set it to a really simple

This is handy for debugging.

Guido van Rossum 2dced8b602 Patch 1329 (partial) by Christian Heimes.
Add a closefd flag to open() which can be set to False to prevent closing
the file descriptor when close() is called or when the object is destroyed.
Useful to ensure that sys.std{in,out,err} keep their file descriptors open
when Python is uninitialized. (This was always a feature in 2.x, it just
wasn't implemented in 3.0 yet.)

Guido van Rossum 00bc0e0a2d Patch #1272, by Christian Heimes and Alexandre Vassalotti.
Changes to make __file__ a proper Unicode object, using the default
filesystem encoding.
This is a bit tricky because the default filesystem encoding isn't
set by the time we import the first modules; at that point we fudge
things a bit. This is okay since __file__ isn't really used much
except for error reporting.
Tested on OSX and Linux only so far.
