Issue #7322: Trying to read from a socket's file-like object after a timeout
occurred now raises an error instead of silently losing data.
Patch by Ross Lagerwall.

to fetch the original errno, or to filter timeout errors. Now the
original error is re-raised.

Have SocketIO objects update their reference count in the underlying
socket object on close() so that the underlying socket object is
closed immediately when the last user is done rather than at an
unknown later time when garbage collection can do it.

Introduce a user macro named $(externalsDir), which should point to the root directory of where all the external sources should live. Developers can change this value if their external sources live elsewhere. The default of '..\..' matches the current status quo.
