Dirkjan Ochtman 9b1d670361 Issue #21591: Handle exec backwards compatibility in the AST builder.
Instead of deferring until runtime. This makes sure we hit the right
conditions in dealing with unqualified exec statements.

Reviewed by Victor Stinner. Test follows in a later commit.

Antoine Pitrou ab4a69158b Issue #21523: Fix over-pessimistic computation of the stack effect of some opcodes in the compiler.

Antoine Pitrou 58098a77e6 Issue #13992: The trashcan mechanism is now thread-safe. This eliminates
sporadic crashes in multi-thread programs when several long deallocator
chains ran concurrently and involved subclasses of built-in container
types.

Because of this change, a couple extension modules compiled for 2.7.4
(those which use the trashcan mechanism, despite it being undocumented)
will not be loadable by 2.7.3 and earlier. However, extension modules
compiled for 2.7.3 and earlier will be loadable by 2.7.4.

Victor Stinner 63c22fac72 Issue #7732: Fix a crash on importing a module if a directory has the same name
than a Python module (e.g. "__init__.py"): don't close the file twice.

PyFile_FromFile() does also close the file if PyString_FromString() failed. It
did already close the file on fill_file_fields() error (e.g. if the file is a
directory).

Victor Stinner ed36c06f1d Fix the import machinery if there is an error on sys.path or sys.meta_path
find_module() now raises a RuntimeError, instead of ImportError, on an error on
sys.path or sys.meta_path because load_package() and import_submodule() returns
None and clear the exception if a ImportError occurred.

  Issue #10655: Fix the build on PowerPC on Linux with GCC when building with
  timestamp profiling (--with-tsc): the preprocessor test for the PowerPC
  support now looks for "__powerpc__" as well as "__ppc__": the latter seems to
  only be present on OS X; the former is the correct one for Linux with GCC.

Antoine Pitrou a03ff6d3cd sys.stderr and sys.excepthook can be None at interpreter shutdown,
in which case display the appropriate error message.
