Thomas Wouters 58d0510245 ANSIfy some more forward declarations. 2000-07-24 14:43:35 +00:00
Thomas Wouters f3f33dcf03 Bunch of minor ANSIfications: 'void initfunc()' -> 'void initfunc(void)',
and a couple of functions that were missed in the previous batches. Not
terribly tested, but very carefully scrutinized, three times.

All these were found by the little findkrc.py that I posted to python-dev,
which means there might be more lurking. Cases such as this:

long
func(a, b)
	long a;
	long b; /* flagword */
{

and other cases where the last ; in the argument list isn't followed by a
newline and an opening curly bracket. Regexps to catch all are welcome, of
course ;)

Thomas Wouters 7e47402264 Spelling fixes supplied by Rob W. W. Hooft. All these are fixes in either
comments, docstrings or error messages. I fixed two minor things in
test_winreg.py ("didn't" -> "Didn't" and "Didnt" -> "Didn't").

There is a minor style issue involved: Guido seems to have preferred English
grammar (behaviour, honour) in a couple places. This patch changes that to
American, which is the more prominent style in the source. I prefer English
myself, so if English is preferred, I'd be happy to supply a patch myself ;)

Guido van Rossum b18618dab7 Vladimir Marangozov's long-awaited malloc restructuring.
For more comments, read the patches@python.org archives.
For documentation read the comments in mymalloc.h and objimpl.h.

(This is not exactly what Vladimir posted to the patches list; I've
made a few changes, and Vladimir sent me a fix in private email for a
problem that only occurs in debug mode. I'm also holding back on his
change to main.c, which seems unnecessary to me.)

Barry Warsaw b0d1b068d9 audio(7I) suggests that applications do the following to get the
device and control pseudo-device:

- first look for the device filename in the environment variable
  AUDIODEV.

- if not found, use /dev/audio

- calculate the control device by tacking "ctl" onto the base device
  name.

We now do this. Also, if the open fails, we call
PyErr_SetFromErrnoWithFilename() to give a more informative error
message.

Added a fileno() method to the audio object returned from open().
This returns the file descriptor which can be used by applications to
set up SIGPOLL notification, as per the manpage.

Guido van Rossum 0cb96de269 Apply two changes, systematically:
(1) Use PyErr_NewException("module.class", NULL, NULL) to create the
    exception object.

(2) Remove all calls to Py_FatalError(); instead, return or
    ignore the errors -- the import code now checks PyErr_Occurred()
    after calling a module's init function, so it's no longer a
    fatal error for the initialization to fail.

Also did some small cleanups, e.g. removed unnecessary test for
"already initialized" from initfpectl(), and unified
initposix()/initnt().

I haven't checked this very thoroughly, so while the changes are
pretty trivial -- beware of untested code!

descriptor leaks.

Barry Warsaw 8496d39478 Renamed, however there is no test case. I did test some of the module
out manually, and it does compile, but I'm not sure how to write a
useful portable test case. Maybe later...

Guido van Rossum 234f942aef * Added gmtime/localtime/mktime and SYSV timezone globals to timemodule.c.
Added $(SYSDEF) to its build rule in Makefile.
* cgensupport.[ch], modsupport.[ch]: removed some old stuff. Also
  changed files that still used it... And made several things static
  that weren't but should have been... And other minor cleanups...
* listobject.[ch]: add external interfaces {set,get}listslice
* socketmodule.c: fix bugs in new send() argument parsing.
* sunaudiodevmodule.c: added flush() and close().

Guido van Rossum 9bfef44d97 * Changed all copyright messages to include 1993.
* Stubs for faster implementation of local variables (not yet finished)
* Added function name to code object. Print it for code and function
  objects. THIS MAKES THE .PYC FILE FORMAT INCOMPATIBLE (the version
  number has changed accordingly)
* Print address of self for built-in methods
* New internal functions getattro and setattro (getattr/setattr with
  string object arg)
* Replaced "dictobject" with more powerful "mappingobject"
* New per-type functio tp_hash to implement arbitrary object hashing,
  and hashobject() to interface to it
* Added built-in functions hash(v) and hasattr(v, 'name')
* classobject: made some functions static that accidentally weren't;
  added __hash__ special instance method to implement hash()
* Added proper comparison for built-in methods and functions
