R David Murray f11caa0bba Merge #18206: Fix test for existence of license URL.
This test will fail because a previous attempt to fix a merge error
in site.py was incorrect, but the test wasn't running so it wasn't
caught. The next commit will fix the site.py bug.

R David Murray 1bc6ceba92 #18206: Fix test for existence of license URL.
It now always checks, instead of only when the LICENSE file doesn't exist. It
is also protected by the 'network' resource, and uses a HEAD request since we
are only doing an existence check.

Brett Cannon b1611e2772 Issue #15767: Introduce ModuleNotFoundError, a subclass of
ImportError.

The exception is raised by import when a module could not be found.
Technically this is defined as no viable loader could be found for the
specified module. This includes ``from ... import`` statements so that
the module usage is consistent for all situations where import
couldn't find what was requested.

This should allow for the common idiom of::

  try:
    import something
  except ImportError:
    pass

to be updated to using ModuleNotFoundError and not accidentally mask
ImportError messages that should propagate (e.g. issues with a
loader).

This work was driven by the fact that the ``from ... import``
statement needed to be able to tell the difference between an
ImportError that simply couldn't find a module (and thus silence the
exception so that ceval can raise it) and an ImportError that
represented an actual problem.

R. David Murray b4ca59b783 #5258/#10642: print fn, line, traceback and continue when .pth file is broken
If a .pth file contained an error, it could cause a traceback in site.py,
terminating its processing. In 2.7 and 3.2, the interpreter will then not
start. Previously, a message would print saying to use -v to get the
traceback. In either case, the traceback generated for a failed .pth file did
not include the .pth filename, making it difficult to debug the problem. Now
site.py reports not only the .pth filename but also the line number causing the
error, and just skips the remainder of the file.

Nick Coghlan 6ead552b47 Note that a number of the changes listed below were not applicable to the Py3k branch, and hence the corresponding
files are unchanged in this checkin. This checkin is also the first time the environment checking in regrtest has
been forward ported to the Py3k branch.

This checkin causes test_xmlrpc to fail - see issue 7165 (it's a bug in the 3.x version of xmlrpc.server)
I am also getting a failure in test_telnetlib, but it isn't clear yet if that is due to these changes.

Georg Brandl 1a3284ed69 #1535: rename __builtin__ module to builtins. 2007-12-02 09:40:06 +00:00
Guido van Rossum cc2b016125 - PEP 3106: dict.iterkeys(), .iteritems(), .itervalues() are now gone;
and .keys(), .items(), .values() return dict views.

The dict views aren't fully functional yet; in particular, they can't
be compared to sets yet. but they are useful as "iterator wells".

There are still 27 failing unit tests; I expect that many of these
have fairly trivial fixes, but there are so many, I could use help.
2007-02-11 06:12:03 +00:00
Guido van Rossum be19ed77dd Fix most trivially-findable print statements.
There's one major and one minor category still unfixed:
doctests are the major category (and I hope to be able to augment the
refactoring tool to refactor bona fide doctests soon);
other code generating print statements in strings is the minor category.

(Oh, and I don't know if the compiler package works.)

Guido van Rossum e2b70bcf74 Get rid of dict.has_key(). Boy this has a lot of repercussions!
Not all code has been fixed yet; this is just a checkpoint...
The C API still has PyDict_HasKey() and _HasKeyString(); not sure
if I want to change those just yet.

Tim Peters 182b5aca27 Whitespace normalization, via reindent.py. 2004-07-18 06:16:08 +00:00
Brett Cannon ee86a66dd8 Fixes a bug in testing code handling .pth files that did not restore the original
module that is removed for testing "import" lines. Originally deleted the
entry from sys.modules and then just let other code that needed it to import it
again. Problem with this solution is that it lead to code that had already
imported the module in question to have their own reference to a new copy of
the module in question that new code couldn't reach. This lead to a failure in
test_strptime since it monkey-patched the 'time' module it had a reference to
while _strptime had its own reference to another copy of 'time' from being
imported by test___all__ that it was using for a calculation.

Also moved the testing code out of the PthFile class and into the actual test
class. This was to stop using 'assert' which is useless with a -O execution.
2004-07-13 07:12:25 +00:00
Brett Cannon 64a8470246 Restructure testing of .pth files. Move previous functions into a class and
create a testing method that can be called to make sure that the handling of
the .pth file was correct.

Raymond Hettinger ebd95222bf * Silence a test failure that resulted when test_site was run by
regrtest.py after it ran test_frozen. This test was really only
designed to be run immediately after startup. Afterwards, other
modules could be loaded when had not been fixed-up by site.py
Took the chicken way out and only tested those modules known to
  be imported by site.py.

* Normalized whitespace.
