Barry Warsaw 70d61cedf7 "Port" the fix for issue 1974 from the trunk (2.7). Because Python 3.x does things much better, less changes are necessary.
This also shoves test_email_codecs_rename.py onto test_email_codecs.py even though the test needs to be ported to Python 3.

Guido van Rossum 0ad59d467d Issue #5604: non-ASCII characters in module name passed to
imp.find_module() were converted to UTF-8 while the path is
converted to the default filesystem encoding, causing nonsense.
Thanks to Andrew Svetlov.

(This time to the right branch. Will block duplicate merge to 3.0.2.)

Brett Cannon 7f6b4f86e3 Make sure time.strptime only accepts strings (and document the fact like
strftime). Already didn't accept bytes but make the check earlier. This also
lifts the limitation of requiring ASCII.

Closes issue #5236. Thanks Tennessee Leeuwenburg.

Brett Cannon 8593a75688 Fix importlib.machinery.PathFinder.find_module() to essentially skip over None
entries in sys.path_importer_cache. While this differs from semantics in how
__import__ works, it prevents any implicit semantics from taking hold with
users.

Jeremy Hylton 636950f925 Remove special logic that closes HTTPConnection socket on EPIPE.
http://bugs.python.org/issue5542

If the socket is closed, the client has no chance to read the response
from the server. EPIPE means that it isn't possible to write more
data from the socket, but not that it is impossible to read.

Also, various formatting changes.

Jeremy Hylton 236654b82d Fix some string encoding issues with entity bodies in HTTP requests.
RFC 2616 says that iso-8859-1 is the default charset for HTTP entity
bodies, but we encoded strings using ascii. See
http://bugs.python.org/issue5314. Changed docs and code to use
iso-8859-1.

Also fix some brokenness with passing a file as the body instead of a
string.

Add tests to show that some of this behavior actually works.

Issue 5237, Allow auto-numbered replacement fields in str.format() strings.

For simple uses for str.format(), this makes the typing easier. Hopfully this
will help in the adoption of str.format().

  For example:
  'The {} is {}'.format('sky', 'blue')

You can mix and matcth auto-numbering and named replacement fields:
  'The {} is {color}'.format('sky', color='blue')

But you can't mix and match auto-numbering and specified numbering:
  'The {0} is {}'.format('sky', 'blue')
ValueError: cannot switch from manual field specification to automatic field numbering

  Will port to 3.1.

Brett Cannon 2a922ed6ad Introduce importlib.abc. The module contains various ABCs related to imports
(mostly stuff specified by PEP 302). There are two ABCs, PyLoader and
PyPycLoader, which help with implementing source and source/bytecode loaders by
implementing load_module in terms of other methods. This removes a lot of
gritty details loaders typically have to worry about.

Jeffrey Yasskin 9de7ec7868 http://bugs.python.org/issue4715
This patch by Antoine Pitrou optimizes the bytecode for conditional branches by
merging the following "POP_TOP" instruction into the conditional jump. For
example, the list comprehension "[x for x in l if not x]" produced the
following bytecode:

  1 0 BUILD_LIST 0
              3 LOAD_FAST 0 (.0)
        >> 6 FOR_ITER 23 (to 32)
              9 STORE_FAST 1 (x)
             12 LOAD_FAST 1 (x)
             15 JUMP_IF_TRUE 10 (to 28)
             18 POP_TOP
             19 LOAD_FAST 1 (x)
             22 LIST_APPEND 2
             25 JUMP_ABSOLUTE 6
        >> 28 POP_TOP
             29 JUMP_ABSOLUTE 6
        >> 32 RETURN_VALUE

but after the patch it produces the following bytecode:

  1 0 BUILD_LIST 0
              3 LOAD_FAST 0 (.0)
        >> 6 FOR_ITER 18 (to 27)
              9 STORE_FAST 1 (x)
             12 LOAD_FAST 1 (x)
             15 POP_JUMP_IF_TRUE 6
             18 LOAD_FAST 1 (x)
             21 LIST_APPEND 2
             24 JUMP_ABSOLUTE 6
        >> 27 RETURN_VALUE

Notice that not only the code is shorter, but the conditional jump
(POP_JUMP_IF_TRUE) jumps right to the start of the loop instead of going through
the JUMP_ABSOLUTE at the end. "continue" statements are helped
similarly.

Furthermore, the old jump opcodes (JUMP_IF_FALSE, JUMP_IF_TRUE) have been
replaced by two new opcodes:
- JUMP_IF_TRUE_OR_POP, which jumps if true and pops otherwise
- JUMP_IF_FALSE_OR_POP, which jumps if false and pops otherwise

Brett Cannon eb2e0dd19d Move importlib's frozen importer over to rpartition for setting __package__. 2009-02-07 01:38:38 +00:00
Brett Cannon 2c318a1390 Rewrite the code implementing __import__ for importlib. Now it is much simpler
and relies much more on meta path finders to abstract out various parts of
import.

As part of this the semantics for import_module tightened up and now follow
__import__ much more closely (biggest thing is that the 'package' argument must
now already be imported, else a SystemError is raised).

This moves the underlying socket.socket object from r.fp._sock to r.fp.raw._sock. Since _sock is an internal object, this should be ok. Kristján Valur Jónsson 7e11b3f522 merging / reimplementing r68532 from the trunk to Py3k
Enable buffering for HTTPResponse's fp. read() behaves identically for buffered and non-buffered IO. read(n) also won't block if n bytes are availble on the socket. There is therefore no reason not to use buffering. The reason 2.x disables buffering by default, that some clients may be accessing the underlying socket directly and so bypass the buffering buffer, doesn't apply in 3.x with its redesigned IO library.
See issue 4448 and issue 4879

Re-enable all tests for windows platforms.
Also, explicitly connect to the IPV4 address. It would try connecting using AF_INET6 first and this would cause a delay of up to a second.
