Guido van Rossum 8bc0965adf Removed uses of dict.has_key() from distutils, and uses of 
callable() from copy_reg.py, so the interpreter now starts up
without warnings when '-3' is given.  More work like this needs to
be done in the rest of the stdlib.

Christian Heimes 3305c52de7 Applied my patch #1455 with some extra fixes for VS 2005 
The new msvc9compiler module supports VS 2005 and VS 2008. I've also fixed build_ext to support PCbuild8 and PCbuild9 and backported my fix for xxmodule.c from py3k. The old code msvccompiler is still in place in case somebody likes to build an extension with VS 2003 or earlier.
I've also updated the cygwin compiler module for VS 2005 and VS 2008. It works with VS 2005 but I'm unable to test it with VS 2008. We have to wait for a new version of cygwin.

Georg Brandl aef205d1a8 #1120: put explicit version in the shebang lines of pydoc, idle 
and smtpd.py scripts that are installed by setup.py. That way, they
work when only "make altinstall" is used.

As discussed on distutils-sig: Allows the generated installer name on
64bit Windows platforms to be different than the name generated for
32bit Windows platforms.

Neal Norwitz 4a700bb469 SF 1668596/1720897: distutils now copies data files 
even if package_dir is empty.

This needs to be backported.  I'm too tired tonight.  It would be great
if someone backports this if the buildbots are ok with it.  Otherwise,
I will try to get to it tomorrow.

Georg Brandl fb4b3b77c7 Bug #1706381: Specifying the SWIG option "-c++" in the setup.py file 
(as opposed to the command line) will now write file names ending in
".cpp" too.

Tim Peters 700f36c752 Two lines in this file had unbalanced parentheses -- couldn't possibly 
work (SyntaxErrors at compile time).

I slammed in what looked like the obvious fixes, but someone who
understands this file should check my work.
