Because a number of extension link (indirectly) to CoreFoundation and the Python core itself didn't the interpreter crashed when importing some extensions, such as _locale, on a secondary thread. This fix ensures that Python is linked to CoreFoundation on OSX, which results in the CoreFoundation constructor being called when Python is loaded. This does not require code changes. ........ |

Cache the results of all runtime checks.
This will be helpful to people who want to compile Python with a cross-compiler. Now you can upload the configure script on your host machine, run it with caching enabled, and download the cached results on your build machine. |

When _locale became a built-in module it was discovered that ``-lintl`` was not
added as a build flag as needed. This then led to the discovery that OS X framework builds did not have the LIBS var to pick up this flag. Fixes issue #6154. Thanks to Benjamin Peterson, Roumen Petrov, Erick Tryzelaar, Mark Dickinson, Evan Behar, and Ronald Oussoren for helping. |

problems for binary distributions of Python in situations where the build machine has SSE2 but the target machine does not. Therefore, don't enable SSE2 instructions automatically on x86. |

Issue #1580: use short float repr where possible.
- incorporate and adapt David Gay's dtoa and strtod into the Python core - on platforms where we can use Gay's code (almost all!), repr(float) is based on the shortest sequence of decimal digits that rounds correctly. - add sys.float_repr_style attribute to indicate whether we're using Gay's code or not - add autoconf magic to detect and enable SSE2 instructions on x86/gcc - slight change to repr and str: repr switches to exponential notation at 1e16 instead of 1e17, str switches at 1e11 instead of 1e12 |

The default is 32-bit, meaning i386 and ppc. The most useful alternative is 'all', which includes all 4 CPU architectures supported by MacOS X (i386, ppc, x86_64 and ppc64). This includes limited support for the Carbon bindings in 64-bit mode as well, limited because (a) I haven't done extensive testing and (b) a large portion of the Carbon API's aren't available in 64-bit mode anyway. I've also duplicated a feature of Apple's build of python: setting the environment variable 'ARCHFLAGS' controls the '-arch' flags used for building extensions using distutils. ........ |

Hopefully fix make framework install on Mac (see 3174)
Removal of the Mac modules broke many of the Mac scripts (including BuildApplet.py) so the building of the Python launcher and IDLE.app was broken. I manually copied built versions of those apps into Mac. Everything else which used Mac modules had to die. |

A long description of the two competing problems is in the bug report (one old, one recently introduced trying to fix the old one). In short: buffer data during socket._fileobject.read() and readlines() within a cStringIO object instead of a [] of str()s returned from the recv() call. This prevents excessive memory use due to the size parameter being passed to recv() being grossly larger than the actual size of the data returned *and* prevents excessive cpu usage due to looping in python calling recv() with a very tiny size value if min() is used as the previous memory-use bug "fix" did. It also documents what the socket._fileobject._rbufsize member is actually used for. This is a candidate for back porting to 2.5. ................ r62636 | mark.hammond | 2008-05-02 14:48:15 +0200 (Fri, 02 May 2008) | 2 lines #2581: Vista UAC/elevation support for bdist_wininst ................ r62638 | facundo.batista | 2008-05-02 19:39:00 +0200 (Fri, 02 May 2008) | 3 lines Fixed some test structures. And of course, the test failed: a bytearray was used without reason in io.TextIOWrapper.tell(). The difference is that iterating over bytes (i.e. str in python2.6) returns 1-char bytes, whereas bytearrays yield integers. Mark Dickinson | 8fb57fc627 | Remove temporary autoconf checks added in revision 62592 | |
Mark Dickinson | 6471f9633b |
Add some temporary autoconf checks to try to figure out why test_math is
failing on Debian/alpha. (log(9.88e-324) gives an unexpected ValueError on that platform). These checks will be removed again once the source of the problem is identified. I hope this is a reasonable way to approach the Debian/alpha buildbot failures; if there's a better way of debugging buildbot test failures then please let me know. |

For DebuggingServerTests, construct SMTP objects with a localhost argument to avoid abysmally long FQDN lookups (not relevant to items under test) on some machines that would cause the test to fail. Moved server setup code in the server function inside the try block to avoid the possibility of setup failure hanging the test. Minor edits to conform to PEP 8.
