The "Gestalt" function on OSX is deprecated (starting with OSX 10.8),
remove its usage from the stdlib. The patch removes a number of private
functions and a private module, but does not change the public API.
The removed code was effectively dead, the platform module has used
other code to fetch the OSX version for years and could only use
on the Gestalt-based code as a fallback. That fallback can only trigger
on broken OSX installs (that is, someone has removed parts of the system
install)
time.ctime(), gmtime(), time.localtime(), datetime.date.fromtimestamp(),
datetime.datetime.fromtimestamp() and datetime.datetime.utcfromtimestamp() now
raises an OverflowError, instead of a ValueError, if the timestamp does not fit
in time_t.
datetime.datetime.fromtimestamp() and datetime.datetime.utcfromtimestamp() now
round microseconds towards zero instead of rounding to nearest with ties going
away from zero.
and lifetime issues of dynamically allocated Py_buffer members (#9990)
as well as crashes (#8305, #7433). Many new features have been added
(See whatsnew/3.3), and the documentation has been updated extensively.
The ndarray test object from _testbuffer.c implements all aspects of
PEP-3118, so further development towards the complete implementation
of the PEP can proceed in a test-driven manner.

* sys.platform doesn't contain the major version on Cygwin on Mac OS X
(it's just 'cygwin' and 'darwin')
always appended to the include directories regardless of whether it
was already in the list of directories. This could cause issue if
sqlite was installed in the same location as another install of
Python. Now a check is done to make sure the directory is not included
twice.

Segregated code shared between time and datetime modules into
Modules/_time.c. Added a new header file, Modules/_time.h, which
will be used instead of Include/timefuncs.h for declarations shared
between time and datetime modules.
the curses module must be linked against ncurses as well. Otherwise it
is not safe to load both the readline and curses modules in an application.

POSIX systems with a C extension module. This is required in order for
the subprocess module to be made thread safe.
The pure python implementation is retained so that it can continue to be
used if for some reason the _posixsubprocess extension module is not
available.
The unittest executes tests on both code paths to guarantee compatibility.

Always compile the all versions of the hashlib algorithm modules when Python
was compiled with Py_DEBUG defined. Otherwise the builtins are not compiled by
default for many developers due to OpenSSL being present, making it easier for
bugs to slip by. A future commit will add test code compare the behaviors of
all implementations when they are all available.

Change framework search order when looking for Tcl/Tk on OSX.
This is needed because the system linker looks in /Library/Framework before
it looks in /System/Library frameworks. Without this patch _tkinter will
be unusable when it is compiled on a system that has Tk 8.5 installed in
/Library/Frameworks (and the Apple 8.4 install in /System/Library/Frameworks)

in Lib/_pyio.py for ease of testing new features and usefulness to other
implementers.

MacOS X: Enable 4-way universal builds
This patch adds a new configure argument on OSX:
--with-universal-archs=[32-bit|64-bit|all]
When used with the --enable-universalsdk option this controls which
CPU architectures are includes in the framework. The default is 32-bit,
meaning i386 and ppc. The most useful alternative is 'all', which includes
all 4 CPU architectures supported by MacOS X (i386, ppc, x86_64 and ppc64).
This includes limited support for the Carbon bindings in 64-bit mode as well,
limited because (a) I haven't done extensive testing and (b) a large portion
of the Carbon API's aren't available in 64-bit mode anyway.
I've also duplicated a feature of Apple's build of python: setting the
environment variable 'ARCHFLAGS' controls the '-arch' flags used for building
extensions using distutils.
