It consists of code from urllib, urllib2, urlparse, and robotparser.
The old modules have all been removed. The new package has five
submodules: urllib.parse, urllib.request, urllib.response,
urllib.error, and urllib.robotparser. The urllib.request.urlopen()
function uses the url opener from urllib2.
Note that the unittests have not been renamed for the
beta, but they will be renamed in the future.

An instance of a weakref subclass can have attributes.
If such a weakref holds the only strong reference to the object,
deleting the weakref will delete the object. In this case,
the callback must not be called, because the ref object is being deleted!

The repr() of a string now contains printable Unicode characters unescaped.
The new ascii() builtin can be used to get a repr() with only ASCII characters in it.
PEP and patch were written by Atsuo Ishimoto.
with non-ascii characters.
This is the simple fix, which uses the FileSystemEncoding.
Replacing all the char* with unicode strings is a major rewrite,
and needs more thinking.
functions have been added to the subprocess module.
The fixer for this still needs to be written and proper Py3K deprecation
warnings for the functions that didn't make the transition need to be done in
2.6.
This is all part of trying to close issue #2872.

MacOSX: remove dependency on Carbon package for urllib
This patch removes the dependency on the Carbon package from urllib.
The mac-specific code for getting proxy configuration is now writting in
Python using ctypes and uses the SystemConfiguration framework instead of
InternetConfig. Also provides a mac-specific implementation of proxy_bypass.

This is necessary to allow python run from a non-ASCII directory,
and seems enough on some platforms, probably where the default PyUnicode encoding (utf-8)

Issue #1496032. Add -mieee to BASECFLAGS on alpha, when gcc is
the compiler. This should(?) help to fix failures in test_math
and test_cmath on Linux/alpha.
Also add configure message reporting the result of uname -m, as
a debugging aid.

long and long long.
The rewrite is modeled on PyLong_FromLong, instead of using
PyLong_FromByteArray; this makes the algorithm simpler and

renamed tokenize and now works with bytes rather than strings. A new
detect_encoding function has been added for determining source file encoding
according to PEP-0263. Token sequences returned by tokenize always start
with an ENCODING token which specifies the encoding used to decode the file.
This token is used to encode the output of untokenize back to bytes.
Credit goes to Michael "I'm-going-to-name-my-first-child-unittest" Foord from Resolver Systems for this work.
for bytes. This is the default protocol. It intentionally cannot
be unpickled by Python 2.x.
- When a pickle written by Python 2.x contains an (8-bit) str
instance, this is now decoded to a (Unicode) str instance. The
encoding used to do this defaults to ASCII, but can be overridden
via two new keyword arguments to the Unpickler class. Previously
this would create bytes instances, which is usually wrong: str
instances are often used to pickle attribute names etc., and text is
more common than binary data anyway.
