Fix for issue3559: No preferences menu in IDLE on OSX
1) Add a comment to the help file to that points to the
preferences menu.
2) An earlier checkin tried to detect Tk >= 8.10.14,
but did this in the wrong way. The end result of this
was that the IDLE->Preferences... menu got surpressed
when using the system version of Tcl/Tk

Windows objects cannot be compared, and it's better to have a consistent order;
so We add the window unique ID to the sort key.

test_math and test_cmath are failing on the FreeBSD 6.2 trunk buildbot,
apparently because tanh(-0.) loses the sign of zero on that platform.
If true, this is a bug in FreeBSD.
Added a configure test to verify this. I still need to figure out

Issue 2665: On Windows, sys.stderr does not contain a valid file when running without a console.

This should fix issue2632. A long description of the two competing
problems is in the bug report (one old, one recently introduced trying
to fix the old one). In short:
buffer data during socket._fileobject.read() and readlines() within a
cStringIO object instead of a [] of str()s returned from the recv()
call.
This prevents excessive memory use due to the size parameter being
passed to recv() being grossly larger than the actual size of the data
returned *and* prevents excessive cpu usage due to looping in python
calling recv() with a very tiny size value if min() is used as the
previous memory-use bug "fix" did.
It also documents what the socket._fileobject._rbufsize member is
actually used for.
This is a candidate for back porting to 2.5.

In test_io, StatefulIncrementalDecoderTest was not part of the test suite.
And of course, the test failed:
a bytearray was used without reason in io.TextIOWrapper.tell().
The difference is that iterating over bytes (i.e. str in python2.6) returns 1-char bytes,
whereas bytearrays yield integers.
This code should still work with python3.0

renamed tokenize and now works with bytes rather than strings. A new
detect_encoding function has been added for determining source file encoding
according to PEP-0263. Token sequences returned by tokenize always start
with an ENCODING token which specifies the encoding used to decode the file.
This token is used to encode the output of untokenize back to bytes.
Credit goes to Michael "I'm-going-to-name-my-first-child-unittest" Foord from Resolver Systems for this work.

In PyNumber_ToBase, changed from an assert to returning an error when PyObject_Index() returns something other than an int or long. It should never be possible to trigger this, as PyObject_Index checks to make sure it returns an int or long.

Re-enable tests, they were failing since gc.collect() clears the various freelists.
They still remain fragile.
For example, a call to assertEqual currently does not make any allocation
(which surprised me at first).
But this can change when gc.collect also deletes the numerous "zombie frames"
attached to each function.
