Marc-André Lemburg a50e6233f5 Add Python implementation to the machine details. 
Pretty-print the Python version used for running PyBench.

Let the user know when calibration has finished.

[ 1563844 ] pybench support for IronPython:

Simplify Unicode version detection.

Make garbage collection and check interval settings optional if
the Python implementation doesn't support thess (e.g. IronPython).

Neal Norwitz e4abc232d5 Don't kill a normal instance of python running on windows when checking 
to kill a cygwin instance.  build\\python.exe was matching a normal windows
instance.  Prefix that with a \\ to ensure build is a directory and not
PCbuild.  As discussed on python-dev.

Found them using::

(I was doing this all over my own code anyway, because I'd been using spaces in
all defs, so I thought I'd make a run on the Python code as well.  If you need
to do such fixes in your own code, you can use xx-rename or parenregu.el within
emacs.)

Steve Holden d05e546850 Revert tests to MAL's original round sizes to retiain comparability 
from long ago and far away. Stop calling this pybench 1.4 because it
isn't. Remove the empty test, which was a bad idea.

Steve Holden f845877767 Use minimum calibration time rather than avergae to avoid 
the illusion of negative run times. Halt with an error if
run times go below 10 ms, indicating that results will be
unreliable.

Tim Peters ed2038b599 The part checking for the sqlite DLL was looking at, and 
copying to, a wrong location (it copied the DLL under the
Python directory, and gave it name 'PCbuild').

The Windows buildbots other than mine are probably hung
now, waiting for someone to press "OK" on a popup box
informing them that sqlite3.dll couldn't be found.

Tim Peters b2fc21e9f8 sqlite on Windows: 
- The buildbot "fetch it" step failed at the end, due to
  using Unix syntax in the final "copy the DLL" step.
  test_sqlite was skipped as a result.

- test_sqlite is no longer an expected skip on Windows.

Walter Dörwald abb02e5994 Patch #1436130: codecs.lookup() now returns a CodecInfo object (a subclass 
of tuple) that provides incremental decoders and encoders (a way to use
stateful codecs without the stream API). Functions
codecs.getincrementaldecoder() and codecs.getincrementalencoder() have
been added.

Trent Mick b1386772b5 Adding the /useenv means that one's PATH actually gets through. This is 
important for the _ssl.vproj build. It calls build_ssl.py which tries to
find a Perl to use. Without "/useenv" Visual Studio is getting a PATH
from somewhere else (presumably from its internal environment
configuration). The result is that build_ssl.py fallsback to its
"well-known" locations for a Perl install.

Tim Peters ca4d08b6d3 NodeInfo.__gen_init(): Fiddle so that reindent.py is 
happy with the output as-is.  This incidentally also
gets rid of "an extra" blank line at the end of the output
block that probably wasn't intended (although it doesn't
matter one way or the other).

Guido van Rossum c2e20744b2 PEP 343 -- the with-statement. 
This was started by Mike Bland and completed by Guido
(with help from Neal).

This still needs a __future__ statement added;
Thomas is working on Michael's patch for that aspect.

There's a small amount of code cleanup and refactoring
in ast.c, compile.c and ceval.c (I fixed the lltrace
behavior when EXT_POP is used -- however I had to make
lltrace a static global).

Jeremy Hylton 3e0055f8c6 Merge ast-branch to head 
This change implements a new bytecode compiler, based on a
transformation of the parse tree to an abstract syntax defined in
Parser/Python.asdl.

The compiler implementation is not complete, but it is in stable
enough shape to run the entire test suite excepting two disabled
tests.

Jack Jansen ab16c35f46 Revamped type declaration so the basic routines return a list of strings. 
This allows variables to be declared as formal arguments. The bgenType.declare
method now simply outputs all declarations on separate lines ending
in semicolons.

Marc-André Lemburg bb4f1bdd8b locale.py now uses an updated locale alias table (built using 
Tools/i18n/makelocalealias.py, a tool to parse the X11 locale
alias file); the encoding lookup was enhanced to use Python's
encoding alias table

As sige-effect, this fixes SF bug [ 1080864 ] locale.py doesn't recognize
valid locale setting.

Jeremy Hylton 566d934745 compiler.transformer: correct lineno attribute when possible 
SF patch #1015989

The basic idea of this patch is to compute lineno attributes for all AST nodes.  The actual
implementation lead to a lot of restructing and code cleanup.

The generated AST nodes now have an optional lineno argument to constructor.  Remove the
top-level asList(), since it didn't seem to serve any purpose.  Add an __iter__ to ast nodes.
Use isinstance() instead of explicit type tests.

Change transformer to use the new lineno attribute, which replaces three lines of code with one.
Use universal newlines so that we can get rid of special-case code for line endings.  Use
lookup_node() in a few more frequently called, but simple com_xxx methods().  Change string
exception to class exception.

Hye-Shik Chang e9ddfbb412 SF #989185: Drop unicode.iswide() and unicode.width() and add 
unicodedata.east_asian_width().  You can still implement your own
simple width() function using it like this:

Raymond Hettinger 354433a59d SF patch #872326: Generator expression implementation 
(Code contributed by Jiwon Seo.)

The documentation portion of the patch is being re-worked and will be
checked-in soon.  Likewise, PEP 289 will be updated to reflect Guido's
rationale for the design decisions on binding behavior (as described in
in his patch comments and in discussions on python-dev).

The test file, test_genexps.py, is written in doctest format and is
meant to exercise all aspects of the the patch.  Further additions are
welcome from everyone.  Please stress test this new feature as much as
possible before the alpha release.

Fred Drake 7d599482f2 When piping output into a pager like "less", quiting the pager before 
the output was consumed would cause and exception to be raise in
logmerge; suppress this specific error, because it's not helpful.

Tim Peters 21d7d4d5ca _Py_PrintReferenceAddresses(): also print the type name. In real use 
I'm finding some pretty baffling output, like reprs consisting entirely
of three left parens.  At least this will let us know what type the object
is (it's not str -- there's no quote character in the repr).

New tool combinerefs.py, to combine the two output blocks produced via
PYTHONDUMPREFS.
