I've done this in preference to changing python-config to specify '-framework Python' for linking because that doesn't work when you have multiple versions of python installed (because '-framework Python' will always link to the 'Current' version of the framework, without a possibility to specify a specific version). ........ |

When _locale became a built-in module it was discovered that ``-lintl`` was not
added as a build flag as needed. This then led to the discovery that OS X framework builds did not have the LIBS var to pick up this flag. Fixes issue #6154. Thanks to Benjamin Peterson, Roumen Petrov, Erick Tryzelaar, Mark Dickinson, Evan Behar, and Ronald Oussoren for helping. |

Issue #1580: use short float repr where possible.
- incorporate and adapt David Gay's dtoa and strtod into the Python core - on platforms where we can use Gay's code (almost all!), repr(float) is based on the shortest sequence of decimal digits that rounds correctly. - add sys.float_repr_style attribute to indicate whether we're using Gay's code or not - add autoconf magic to detect and enable SSE2 instructions on x86/gcc - slight change to repr and str: repr switches to exponential notation at 1e16 instead of 1e17, str switches at 1e11 instead of 1e12 |

merge the io-c branch: C implementation of the io module
The main io module now uses the C implementation. The Python one still exists in Lib/_pyio.py for ease of testing new features and usefulness to other implementers. The default is 32-bit, meaning i386 and ppc. The most useful alternative is 'all', which includes all 4 CPU architectures supported by MacOS X (i386, ppc, x86_64 and ppc64). This includes limited support for the Carbon bindings in 64-bit mode as well, limited because (a) I haven't done extensive testing and (b) a large portion of the Carbon API's aren't available in 64-bit mode anyway. I've also duplicated a feature of Apple's build of python: setting the environment variable 'ARCHFLAGS' controls the '-arch' flags used for building extensions using distutils. ........ |

Hopefully fix make framework install on Mac (see 3174)
Removal of the Mac modules broke many of the Mac scripts (including BuildApplet.py) so the building of the Python launcher and IDLE.app was broken. I manually copied built versions of those apps into Mac. Everything else which used Mac modules had to die. |

Make a new urllib package .
It consists of code from urllib, urllib2, urlparse, and robotparser. The old modules have all been removed. The new package has five submodules: urllib.parse, urllib.request, urllib.response, urllib.error, and urllib.robotparser. The urllib.request.urlopen() function uses the url opener from urllib2. Note that the unittests have not been renamed for the beta, but they will be renamed in the future. Joint work with Senthil Kumaran. |

Adds 'n' as a format specifier for integers, to mirror the same specifier which is already available for floats. 'n' is the same as 'd', but inserts the current locale-specific thousands grouping. I added this as a stringlib function, but it's only used by str type, not unicode. This is because of an implementation detail in unicode.format(), which does its own str->unicode conversion. But the unicode version will be needed in 3.0, and it may be needed by other code eventually in 2.6 (maybe decimal?), so I left it as a stringlib implementation. As long as the unicode version isn't instantiated, there's no overhead for this. ........ |

A long description of the two competing problems is in the bug report (one old, one recently introduced trying to fix the old one). In short: buffer data during socket._fileobject.read() and readlines() within a cStringIO object instead of a [] of str()s returned from the recv() call. This prevents excessive memory use due to the size parameter being passed to recv() being grossly larger than the actual size of the data returned *and* prevents excessive cpu usage due to looping in python calling recv() with a very tiny size value if min() is used as the previous memory-use bug "fix" did. It also documents what the socket._fileobject._rbufsize member is actually used for. This is a candidate for back porting to 2.5. ................ r62636 | mark.hammond | 2008-05-02 14:48:15 +0200 (Fri, 02 May 2008) | 2 lines #2581: Vista UAC/elevation support for bdist_wininst ................ r62638 | facundo.batista | 2008-05-02 19:39:00 +0200 (Fri, 02 May 2008) | 3 lines Fixed some test structures. The new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no circumstances should tests be hard coding ports! test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct access to the underlying socket used. Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and connect). The following tests were updated to following the new conventions: test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib, test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver, test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl. It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test suite to run in parallel without issue. ........ r62235 | gregory.p.smith | 2008-04-09 02:25:17 +0200 (Wed, 09 Apr 2008) | 3 lines Fix zlib crash from zlib.decompressobj().flush(val) when val was not positive. Issue #1580: New free format floating point representation based on "Floating-Point Printer Sample Code", by Robert G. Burger. For example repr(11./5) now returns '2.2' instead of '2.2000000000000002'.
Thanks to noam for the patch! I had to modify doubledigits.c slightly to support X64 and IA64 machines on Windows. I also added the new file to the three project files. |

Christian Heimes | f78b1c6573 | I've moved the remains of PyInt_ to the longobject.h header file and removed the inclusing of intobject.h from Python.h. Now the intobject.h exists only to provide some aliases for porters from Python 2.x. | |

Final fix for #1403
> The Windows installer and some Linux distros are using compileall to compile all py files in the Lib/ directory. However no test exists to check if all py files can be compiled. I figured out that make testall is the easiest way to test compileall. For py3k unit tests do some extra checks with -bb. |

For PEP3137: Adds missing methods to the mutable PyBytes object (soon
to be called a buffer). Shares code with stringobject when possible. Adds unit tests with common code that should be usable to test the PEPs mutable buffer() and immutable bytes() types. http://bugs.python.org/issue1261 |

Delete bufferobject.[ch].
This will undoubtedly require Windows build file changes too. |
