Brett Cannon f4189916e3 Flush out support for ``class B(): pass`` syntax by adding support to the
'parser' module and 'compiler' package.

Closes patch #1176012. Thanks logistix.

Michael W. Hudson 0ccff074cd This is Mark Russell's patch:
[ 1009560 ] Fix @decorator evaluation order

From the description:

Changes in this patch:

- Change Grammar/Grammar to require
newlines between adjacent decorators.

- Fix order of evaluation of decorators
in the C (compile.c) and python
(Lib/compiler/pycodegen.py) compilers

- Add better order of evaluation check
to test_decorators.py (test_eval_order)

- Update the decorator documentation in
the reference manual (improve description
of evaluation order and update syntax
description)

and the comment:

Used Brett's evaluation order (see
http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2004-August/047835.html)

(I'm checking this in for Anthony who was having problems getting SF to
talk to him)

Raymond Hettinger 354433a59d SF patch #872326: Generator expression implementation
(Code contributed by Jiwon Seo.)

The documentation portion of the patch is being re-worked and will be
checked-in soon. Likewise, PEP 289 will be updated to reflect Guido's
rationale for the design decisions on binding behavior (as described in
in his patch comments and in discussions on python-dev).

The test file, test_genexps.py, is written in doctest format and is
meant to exercise all aspects of the the patch. Further additions are
welcome from everyone. Please stress test this new feature as much as
possible before the alpha release.

Jeremy Hylton accb62b28e SF patch [ 597919 ] compiler package and SET_LINENO
A variety of changes from Michael Hudson to get the compiler working
with 2.3. The primary change is the handling of SET_LINENO:

# The set_lineno() function and the explicit emit() calls for
# SET_LINENO below are only used to generate the line number table.
# As of Python 2.3, the interpreter does not have a SET_LINENO
# instruction. pyassem treats SET_LINENO opcodes as a special case.

A few other small changes:
 - Remove unused code from pycodegen and pyassem.
 - Fix error handling in parsermodule. When PyParser_SimplerParseString()
fails, it sets an exception with detailed info. The parsermodule
was clobbering that exception and replacing it was a generic
"could not parse string" exception. Keep the original exception.

Jeremy Hylton 938ace69a0 staticforward bites the dust.
The staticforward define was needed to support certain broken C
compilers (notably SCO ODT 3.0, perhaps early AIX as well) botched the
static keyword when it was used with a forward declaration of a static
initialized structure. Standard C allows the forward declaration with
static, and we've decided to stop catering to broken C compilers. (In
fact, we expect that the compilers are all fixed eight years later.)

I'm leaving staticforward and statichere defined in object.h as
static. This is only for backwards compatibility with C extensions
that might still use it.

XXX I haven't updated the documentation.

Guido van Rossum 2d3b986480 Disambiguate the grammar for backtick.
The old syntax suggested that a trailing comma was OK inside backticks,
but in fact (due to ideosyncrasies of pgen) it was not. Fix the grammar
to avoid the ambiguity. Fred: you may want to update the refman.

Guido van Rossum 146483964e Patch supplied by Burton Radons for his own SF bug #487390: Modifying
type.__module__ behavior.

This adds the module name and a dot in front of the type name in every
type object initializer, except for built-in types (and those that
already had this). Note that it touches lots of Mac modules -- I have
no way to test these but the changes look right. Apologies if they're
not. This also touches the weakref docs, which contains a sample type
object initializer. It also touches the mmap test output, because the
mmap type's repr is included in that output. It touches object.h to
put the correct description in a comment.

Fred Drake 8b55b2d9aa Fix memory leak in the parser module: There were two leaks in

Guido van Rossum 1c917072ca Very subtle syntax change: in a list comprehension, the testlist in
"for <var> in <testlist> may no longer be a single test followed by
a comma. This solves SF bug #431886. Note that if the testlist
contains more than one test, a trailing comma is still allowed, for
maximum backward compatibility; but this example is not:

    [(x, y) for x in range(10), for y in range(10)]
                              ^

The fix involved creating a new nonterminal 'testlist_safe' whose
definition doesn't allow the trailing comma if there's only one test:

    testlist_safe: test [(',' test)+ [',']]

Thomas Wouters 7e47402264 Spelling fixes supplied by Rob W. W. Hooft. All these are fixes in either
comments, docstrings or error messages. I fixed two minor things in
test_winreg.py ("didn't" -> "Didn't" and "Didnt" -> "Didn't").

There is a minor style issue involved: Guido seems to have preferred English
grammar (behaviour, honour) in a couple places. This patch changes that to
American, which is the more prominent style in the source. I prefer English
myself, so if English is preferred, I'd be happy to supply a patch myself ;)
