Add libraries that those boards depend on. This should be handled in the
future elsewhere (and once for each board), but for now let's make it
compile again.
Remove unnecessary includes, in particular the includes for specific
boards. The list of libraries for 'polygon' example was updated so that
the example compiles again.
This is going to be used by vehicles that already have an object with
setup/loop functions. The vehicle object will just implement the
HAL::Callbacks interface.
Move the macros to a single place and reduce the variations not based on
board, but based on
- The name of the entry-point function, specified by AP_MAIN;
- Whether it contains argc/argv arguments or not.
The goal here is that programs (vehicles and examples) don't need to
include all possible boards to define a main function. Further patches
will change the programs.
Add run method, that encapsulate any mainloop logic on behalf of the
client code. The setup/loop functions are passed via a HAL::Callbacks
interface. The AP_HAL_MAIN() macro should be kept as trivial as
possible.
This interface should be implemented by the existing vehicle objects. To
make easy for the examples (that don't have the equivalent of vehicle
objects), a FunCallbacks was added to bridge to the functions directly.
Instead of requiring every program to specify the HAL related modules,
let the build system do it (in practice everything we compiled depended
on HAL anyway). This allow including only the necessary files in the
compilation.
The switching between different AP_HAL was happening by giving different
definitions of AP_HAL_BOARD_DRIVER, and the programs would use it to
instantiate.
A program or library code would have to explicitly include (and depend)
on the concrete implementation of the HAL, even when using it only via
interface.
The proposed change move this dependency to be link time. There is a
AP_HAL::get_HAL() function that is used by the client code. Each
implementation of HAL provides its own definition of this function,
returning the appropriate concrete instance.
Since this replaces the job of AP_HAL_BOARD_DRIVER, the definition was
removed.
The static variables for PX4 and VRBRAIN were named differently to avoid
shadowing the extern symbol 'hal'.
The legacy EKF switches GPs aiding on on arming, whereas the new EKF switches it on based on GPS data quality.
This means the decision to arm and therefore the predicted solution flags must now reflect the actual status of the navigation solution as it will no longer change when motor arming occurs.
If high vibration levels cause offsets between the two, it switches to the accelerometer with lower vibration levels. The default behaviour is to use the average of both accelerometers.
Don't fuse other measurements on the same frame that magnetometer measurements arrive if running at a high frame rate as there will be insufficient time to complete other operations.
This parameter is a compromise between numerical accuracy of the covariance prediction and sensor timing jitter
Further testing has shown that doing covariance prediction and sensor fusion every 10msec has no observable effect on fusion health and reduces timing hitter noise on magnetometer observations during high rate maneovures
The values chosen ensure that up to consistent 250 msec of sensor delay compensation is available for different platform types
The revised values also ensure that fusion occurs at different time to when the 10Hz magnetometer measurements are read
Adds fusion of the declination when there are no earth relative measurements so that the declination angle and therefore the copters yaw angle have an absolute reference.
This enables the length (but not the declination) of the earth field North/East states to change along with the magnetometer offsets.

If an external gyro calibration has been performed, we should assume that it has been done under static conditions

This patch adds additional methods to the the AHRS library so that the AP_InertialNav library dow nto have to access the EKF directly. This enables Copter to fly using the EKF nominated by AHRS_EKF_TYPE.
It will also pave the way to elimination of the AP_InertialNav library.
This warning happens because of the difference of datatypes between
32 and 64 bits processors.

As AVR2560 is not supported anymore and do integer operations is
usually faster than float-point the _calculate() implementation was
done using only integer operations and as more close to what
datasheet says.
offset parameter units are milligauss
User settable parameters should have a User category defined. Those that should never be set by a user should not have this.
The function rotate_field() can change the values axes and the function
correct_field() applies offsets (which are already in milligauss). Thus any
sensitivity adjustment must be done for two reasons:
(1) The offsets must be applied to the values already in milligauss;
(2) The factory sensitivity adjustment values are per axis, if any rotation
that switches axes is applied, that'll mess with the adjustment.
Experiments showed that before this patch the length of the mag field reported
quite different from the expected. After this patch, the same experiments
showed reasonable values.
This is part of the transition to make all mag field values be used in
milligauss. Additionally the value of _gain_multiple is adapted to the new way
we're using it and corrected accordingly to the datasheets.
The use of _gain_multiple is not necessary because the values of
expected_{x,yz} and _mag_{x,y,z} are both in sensor raw unit (i.e., lsbs).
That wasn't fixed before in order not to make APM users to recalibrate their
compasses.
The failure to initialise the magnetometer bias states to zero can result in a large jump in yaw gyro bias and heading when a heading reset is performed.
Fixes a potential error where changes to timing and arrival rate of magnetometer and baro data could block the fusion of synthetic position and velocity measurements, allowing unrestrained tilt errors during operation without GPS or optical flow.
Fusion of synthetic position or velocity measurements is now timed to coincide with fusion of barometer observations.
If a new barometer observation has not arrived after 200 msec then the synthetic position or velocity is fused anyway so that fusion of synthetic position or velocity observations cannot occur any slower than 5 Hz
Previous check default only checked the number of satellites and horizontal position accuracy.
Updated default value also checks HDoP and speed accuracy.
Fixes the issue of three unused variables, two of which were used in a
commented Debug() call.
To keep the convenient debug message (and the variable names for the
data bytes), this patch uncomment the debug call but wrap the variables
and the debug call around an ifdef for the local symbol
gsof_DEBUGGING. So by turning it on, the debug will already be in place.
The Debug() call was modified to actually compile and include the third

It uses a heating resistor controlled by a pwm.
By changing the duty cycle of the pwm, we can control the temperature.
A simple PI algorithm is used in order to get to the correct temperature
fast enough and without too much overshoot

MPU6000 data sheet indicates that variation on gyro ZRO across temperature range from -40 to +85 is +-20 deg/sec.
The limits on the gyro bias states have been increased to allow for this.
To enable the EKF to accommodate such large gyro bias values in yaw without the yaw error wrapping, leading to continual heading drift, an unwrap function has been applied to the compass heading error.
In 294298e ("AP_InertialSensor: use method for downcast") I was too eager
to use "auto" and ended up using the implicit copy constructor instead
of actually getting a reference to the object.
This was only used for supporting APM1. The removal was mostly automatic

This is the only place where this variant of RCOutput::write() is
called. Remove it so to use the common interface. It can be added back
later when there's support for asynchronous write.
Now that most places in the code use the ARRAY_SIZE macro instead of
coding it by hand, let's use some type safety in its definition. This is
a C++ version of similar macros used in kmod, Linux kernel and the
source of them, ccan.
A C++ version like this is used in V8 (the JS engine) and other open
source projects.

If there is a read error, reading from the adc will return 0 but moreover,
we need to re-initiate a read or else we are stuck forever.

we should use baro height not hgt_afe for the climb rate filter. This
makes the climb rate consistent with the one from the EKF. The lidar
correction comes in with the demanded height, not the observed height
the previous approach assumed a 1:1 mapping between compass backends
and compass instances, which isn't true on PX4.
It also only setup milligauss offsets on a set_and_save call, which is
not the only way offsets change

Due to the description string getting to long HDop was renamed as EPH with VDop as EPV (Which is the same terimnology used to describe the MAVLink side). Status was shortened to stat as well.
AK8963 is configured in 16-bit ADC mode which implies sensitivity of 0.15 uT/LSb. Knowing this fact we can convert the measurements to the proper units. The change will make users recalibrate their compasses.
From now on there's a pair get_field_milligauss() and
get_offsets_milligauss() that can make the transition to the common
units across all compasses easier.

It's possible to use the internal clock in PCA96895 if we account for
the drift it contains. This is a bit different from solutions in other
projects like the Adafruit library and the PX4 firmware: instead of
applying a correction to the final frequency we apply the correction to
the clock since this is the source of the error.
With this fix we arrived to much better results across different lots of
sensors.
The Navio board continues to use the external clock and should have no
difference behavior.

Like was done to inertial AK8963 and inertial sensor move the decision
regarding the I2C bus to the caller. We don't allow changing the address
because apparently HMC5843 doesn't support different addresses.
Changing only the bus could be more easily done but this prepares the
ground for using HMC5843 on an AuxiliarBus.
The need for a more generic abstraction is evidenced by this commit: a
"SerialBus" in AP_HAL would be a nice addition rather than letting each
driver to provide its own. However the methods are a little bit
different from what we have in AK8963. It's safer to do the simple
conversion now and later on to add the abstraction changing everybody to
use it.
read() calls accumulate() which takes the lock by itself so we must
release it like we were doing before 669ae26 ("AP_Compass: encapsulated
calibration in HMC").
Just like was done for inertial sensor, different detect() functions
might need different arguments and passing a pointer to function here is
cumbersome. For example, it forces to have a method like "detect_i2c2"
rather than allowing hal.i2c2 to be passed as parameter.
In order to allow other libraries to use the InertialSensor we need a
way to let them to get the only instance of InertialSensor. The
conventional way to do a singleton would be to let the constructor
private and force it to be instantiated from the get_instance() method.
Here however we just call panic() on the constructor if there's already
an instance alive. This allows us to let the vehicles as is. Later we
can change it so they call the get_instance() method instead.
Add an AuxiliaryBus class that can be derived for specific
implementations in inertial sensor backends. It's an abstract
implementation so other libraries can use the auxiliary bus exported. In
order for this to succeed the backend implementation must split the
initialization of the sensor from the actual sample collecting, like is
done in MPU6000.
When AP_InertialSensor::get_auxiliary_bus() is called it will execute
following steps:
a) Force the backends to be detected if it's the first time it's
being called
b) Find the backend identified by the id
c) call get_auxiliary_bus() on the backend so other libraries can
that AuxiliaryBus to initialize a slave device
Slave devices can be used by calling AuxiliaryBus::request_next_slave()
and are owned by the caller until AuxiliaryBus::register_periodic_read()
is called. From that time on the AuxiliaryBus object takes its ownership.
This way it's possible to do the necessary cleanup later without
introducing refcounts, that we don't have support to.
Between these 2 functions the caller can configure the slave device by
doing its specific initializations by calling the passthrough_*
functions. After the initial configuration and register_periodic_read()
is called only read() can be called.
Identify backend with an id, allowing other libraries to connect to
them. This is different from the _product_id member because it
identifies the sensor, not the board the sensor is in, which is
meaningless for our use case.
This allows backends to have a separate detection and initialization
logic. It doesn't change any backend yet and with the current code
there's no change in behavior either. This only allows
AP_InertialSensor::_detect_backend() to be called earlier so
AP_InertialSensor object can be used by other libraries. If it's not
called, later on AP_InertialSensor::init() will detect and start all
backends.
We were able to read only the block of registers that are part of the
data output from accelerometer/gyroscope. In order to support reading
the external sensors we need support for reading a generic block of
registers.
Now that we have a pre-arm check in place to detect bad lidar, the motion check is unnecessary and can false trigger for copters with flexible undercarriages or on uneven ground.
This param seems to have been un-implemented. This is putting it back in. Adds a meter offset to the calculated altitude form the baro sensors.
Also changes it from int8 to float
There are implementations for float, Vector2f and Vector3f for the Low
Pass Filter and the *2p filter. I tried to implement these filters
with one common template implementation. This implementation saves
some lines of code and reduced the redundancy. One could save even
more code if the currently overloaded isinf/isnan functions and checks
can be removed.

Param 1 denotes which direction the user expects the plane to
travel when changing altitude:
0 = no expectation, command completes when within 5 m of altitude.
1 = climb expected, command completes at or above altitude.
2 = descent expected, command completes at or below altitude.
This method checks for consistency between accelerometer readings and switches to the unit with the lowest vibration of the difference exceeds 0.3g
The threshold of 1.7 m/s/s corresponds to a maximum tilt error of 10 deg assuming one IMU is good, one is bad and the EKF is using the bad IMU.
Now instead of requiring the buffer to fill completely before we can
detect it is not draining, we use a time based mechanism to detect
when none of the first few bytes are transmitted after sitting in our
buffer a half second or more after flow control is enabled. This
huristic is reliable only for the first several chracters because we
believe that the radio must still have plenty of room in it's own
buffers at that time even if it is not able to transmit them to the
other radio yet. Note that the original algorithm made the same
assumption.
The new algorithm is especially helpful for cases where only keepalive
messages are transmitted before other packets can be requested by the
GCS. In this situation, the original code required almost 2 minutes
to disable flow control and allow communication with the GCS.
It was not only standardized, but actually fixed since ".." would not
move to the libraries/ directory (and hence the include location was
actually wrong).
This is really just calculating the hamming weight of the GNSS_MODE bitmask, but I don't know if the APM compiler could handle the GCC intrinsic that could calculate it faster, and this is done so rarely there isn't a significant penalty to using the for loop.

We were previously leaking the AP_MPU6000_BusDriver if the
~AP_InertialSensor_MPU6000::detect*() failed. In order to avoid the
leak move the repeated code in a single private _detect() member that
receives everything as argument. Then this method takes ownership of the
objects.

free the objects it takes ownership of.

In case of error or zeroed data, the i2c semaphore wasn't given.
It happened at first startup on Bebop and caused a failure:
"PANIC: failed to take _bus->sem 100 times in a row..."
this makes it possible to bootup ardupilot before the desired network
interface is available. This is very useful for when using 3G dongles
in aircraft
The current implementation doesn't throw an error on a malformed path string.
i.e. udp:192.168.1.1.14550 instead of udp:192.168.1.1:14550 may result in a memory leak or whatsoever.
The commit fixes the issue and outputs a nice error message if anything's wrong.
No need to repeat the same comments on 3 different places. Instead add a
single comment to explain how start_measurements() and read_raw() are
related.
Don't use a state machine in AK8963: the start_measurements() method
should be called only once. Even if there's a magnetic sensor overflow
the only thing we should do is to discard the new data.
This also moves the _collect_samples() method to be inside _update()
since it's the only place it should be called from, the one running on
the timer thread.
We need to check the AK8963's id before anything else Here we are
reordering the calls to _calibrate() and _check_id(). After that we
don't need to read and write again the AK8963_CNTL1 register.
While at it do some renames as well:
- _configure() -> _setup_mode(): since now there's a
_bus->configure() it became confusing what actually it's
doing.
- make error messages say what we were actually trying to do but
couldn't. Also remove PSTR since this is linux-only.
- start_conversion() -> start_measurements(): We are instructing the
bus to start to get the samples, not to tell the chip to start an
analog->digital conversion like in other sensors.
The MPUREG_PWR_MGMT_1 defines were used when we cared about the MPU9250
initialization code. Now all initialization is done by the MPU9250 class
itself, so remove these defines.
Also remove AK8983_SELFTEST_MAGNETIC_FIELD_ON that is never used and let
the defines always with 2 bytes to improve readability.
Similar code was added in the read_raw() implementation for each bus.
Add a new POD struct read_raw to contain the registers from the AK8963
and use it instead as argument.
DMA is getting stopped in the separate method now. This is the best we
can get at the current time. It does yield slightly better experience
and works in the majority of cases.
The patch is a no bulletproof solution, though.
There's a possibility of corruption in case of e.g. a SIGKILL. There's
no signal framework at the time and the commit doesn't add one. That's
why all signals are handled in the same erroneous way. This is not a
good nor a final solution to the issue.
For the issue at hand a better fix might be porting the code to kernel
space but it's a rather tediuos task that we cannot undertake in the
couple of weeks.
The issue has already come up. There's no deinitialization mechanisms at the moment. As APM is rather software than firmware on Linux, there're some clean-up work that needs to be done. This commit triggers deinitialization of RCInput on a panic.
Add a deinit() counterpart. This is needed for some ports that require some deinitializtion logic. The default implementation is empty. I'm not sure whether we need to inforce it for all.
Ublox 7 and 8 seires use a UBX-CFG-GNSS message to enable satellite constellations. The default value does not enable any additional ones, and any constellations the reciever doesn't report knowing about are not configured.
Remove race condition on sending intial blob to the GPS, it was possible to send a blob that got the GPS configured enough to allow the autodetect to take over (and then some drivers like ublox would not finish sending the blob, which has potential details that the driver might have needed to send)
Limit the delay to checking for NMEA gps to only checking after all the available baud rates have been checked
Since a UBlox will actually report having DGPS (due to SBAS or RTCM data) actually report this as the highest supported mode
The symptom was that if the very first command in the mission was a
do-command, it would be run after every nav-command that didn't have
another do-command before it.
