acceptable outcomes: success or RuntimeError. Without being able to
actually hear whether a sound was played, either one could be right, but
any other error would be a failure.

* splitunc() no more return illegal result for paths with redundant slashes.
* splitunc() now correctly processes the 'İ' character
  (U+0130, LATIN CAPITAL LETTER I WITH DOT ABOVE).
* Deprecation warnings now emitted for every use of splitunc().
* Added tests for splitunc().

Victor Stinner 1310510793 Issue #14432: Generator now clears the borrowed reference to the thread state 
Fix a crash when a generator is created in a C thread that is destroyed while
the generator is still used. The issue was that a generator contains a frame,
and the frame kept a reference to the Python state of the destroyed C thread.
The crash occurs when a trace function is setup.

R David Murray d5c4c7411a #19063: partially fix set_payload handling of non-ASCII string input. 
This is a backward compatible partial fix, the complete fix requires raising
an error instead of accepting the invalid input, so the real fix is only
suitable for 3.4.

Gregory P. Smith acd17304d2 Fixes Issue #17200: telnetlib's read_until and expect timeout was broken by the 
fix to Issue #14635 in Python 3.3.0 to be interpreted as milliseconds instead
of seconds when the platform supports select.poll (ie: everywhere).  It is now
treated as seconds once again.

Victor Stinner 620c48b7ea Issue #17429: platform.linux_distribution() now decodes files from the UTF-8 
encoding with the surrogateescape error handler, instead of decoding from the
locale encoding in strict mode. It fixes the function on Fedora 19 which is
probably the first major distribution release with a non-ASCII name. Patch
written by Toshio Kuratomi.

Gregory P. Smith 589ecda56e Fixes issue #19929: Call os.read with 32768 within subprocess.Popen 
communicate rather than 4096 for efficiency.  A microbenchmark shows
Linux and OS X both using ~50% less cpu time this way.

Nadeem Vawda 3797065ac5 #19395: Raise exception when pickling a (BZ2|LZMA)(Compressor|Decompressor). 
The underlying C libraries provide no mechanism for serializing compressor and
decompressor objects, so actually pickling these classes is impractical.
Previously, these objects would be pickled without error, but attempting to use
a deserialized instance would segfault the interpreter.

Ned Deily 4b7a023149 Issue #19019: Change the OS X installer build script to use CFLAGS instead 
of OPT for special build options.  By setting OPT, some compiler-specific
options like -fwrapv were overridden and thus not used, which could result
in broken interpreters when building with clang.

Ned Deily 5b3582c919 Issue #15663: Tcl/Tk 8.5.15 is now included with the OS X 10.6+ 
64-bit/32-bit installer for 10.6+.  It is no longer necessary
to install a third-party version of Tcl/Tk 8.5 to work around the
problems in the Apple-supplied Tcl/Tk 8.5 shipped in OS X 10.6
and later releases.

Ned Deily 65657c27fa Issue #1584: Provide options to override default search paths for Tcl and Tk 
when building _tkinter.  configure has two new options; if used, both must
be specified:

  ./configure \
      --with-tcltk-includes="-I/opt/local/include" \
      --with-tcltk-libs="-L/opt/local/lib -ltcl8.5 -ltk8.5"

In addition, the options can be overridden with make:

   make \
       TCLTK_INCLUDES="-I/opt/local/include" \
       TCLTK_LIBS="-L/opt/local/lib -ltcl8.6 -ltk8.6"
