Victor Stinner 8f437aac06 Issue #22290: Fix error handling in the _posixsubprocess module. 
* Don't call the garbage collector with an exception set: it causes an
  assertion to fail in debug mode.
* Enhance also error handling if allocating an array for the executable list
  failed.
* Add an unit test for 4 different errors in the _posixsubprocess module.

Victor Stinner 5083828d65 faulthandler: test_gil_released() now uses _sigsegv() instead of _read_null(), 
because _read_null() cannot be used on AIX. On AIX, reading from NULL is
allowed: the first page of memory is a mapped read-only on AIX.

Ned Deily ad24d62882 Issue #17095: Temporarily revert getpath.c change that added the Modules 
directory to sys.path when running from a build directory.  That has
proven to be problematic for several standard library modules with
C extension modules whose builds can fail on some platforms.

On some platforms Tcl memory allocator returns NULL when allocating zero-sized

Serhiy Storchaka 0794088379 Issue #21951: Use attemptckalloc() instead of ckalloc() in Tkinter. 
ckalloc() causes the Tcl interpreter to panic, attemptckalloc() returns NULL

Victor Stinner a3c80ce8b7 Issue #19884: readline: Disable the meta modifier key if stdout is not a 
terminal to not write the ANSI sequence "\033[1034h" into stdout. This sequence

Gregory P. Smith d4dcb70287 Don't restrict ourselves to a "max" fd when closing fds before exec() 
when we have a way to get an actual list of all open fds from the OS.

Fixes issue #21618: The subprocess module would ignore fds that were
inherited by the calling process and already higher than POSIX resource
limits would otherwise allow.  On systems with a functioning /proc/self/fd
or /dev/fd interface the max is now ignored and all fds are closed.

Andrew Kuchling 764662020b #15840: make docs consistent by saying operations on closed files raise ValueError. 
Patch by Caelyn McAulay.

Neither Caelyn nor I could find any cases in 2.7 or 3.4/5 where an
operation on a closed stream raised IOError; generally the C
implementations have a macro to check for the stream being closed, and
these macros all raised ValueError.  If we find any, a new bug should
be opened.

Victor Stinner 3c1b379ebd Issue #20320: select.select() and select.kqueue.control() now round the timeout 
aways from zero, instead of rounding towards zero.

Larry Hastings b082731fbb Issue #20517: Functions in the os module that accept two filenames 
now register both filenames in the exception on failure.

Larry Hastings 2623c8c23c Issue #20530: Argument Clinic's signature format has been revised again. 
The new syntax is highly human readable while still preventing false
positives.  The syntax also extends Python syntax to denote "self" and
positional-only parameters, allowing inspect.Signature objects to be
totally accurate for all supported builtins in Python 3.4.

Nick Coghlan a9b15241c6 Close #20404: blacklist non-text encodings in io.TextIOWrapper 
- io.TextIOWrapper (and hence the open() builtin) now use the
  internal codec marking system added for issue #19619
- also tweaked the C code to only look up the encoding once,
  rather than multiple times
- the existing output type checks remain in place to deal with
  unmarked third party codecs.

Victor Stinner dd382ef8ec Issue #20354: Fix alignment issue in the tracemalloc module on 64-bit 
platforms. Bug seen on 64-bit Linux when using "make profile-opt".

Only align the "frame_t" structure on 32-bit when Visual Studio is used. Before
the alignment to 32-bit was applied to the whole file any compiler supporting
"#pragma pack(4)" which includes GCC.

Larry Hastings 581ee3618c Issue #20326: Argument Clinic now uses a simple, unique signature to 
annotate text signatures in docstrings, resulting in fewer false
positives.  "self" parameters are also explicitly marked, allowing
inspect.Signature() to authoritatively detect (and skip) said parameters.

Issue #20326: Argument Clinic now generates separate checksums for the
input and output sections of the block, allowing external tools to verify
that the input has not changed (and thus the output is not out-of-date).
